MARIETTA, Ga. — A man is behind bars on a murder charge following a shooting in a Marietta parking lot last week.

According to an arrest warrant, Blaylan Phillips grabbed his gun when he heard shots and opened fire into a crowd gathered in a parking lot for a party on Franklin Road.

Although Phillips was not believed to have been aiming for anyone, he shot and killed Christopher Wilson during the incident early Wednesday morning.

Wilson and Phillips were friends, the family told Channel 2’s Ross Cavitt.

At least one other person was shot and injured, according to police.

“I'm happy, but I'm sad at the same time, because of the circumstances,” Wilson’s mother, Veronica Luster, told Cavitt of the news that Phillips had been arrested.

The family said they hold no ill-will toward Phillips.

“I can only imagine how heavy his heart is, knowing he shot and killed his good friend.  So by no means are we upset with him, by no means are we mad at him,” Wilson’s cousin, Tamboura Pressley, said.

Police are still investigating the incident.
