GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — Police told Channel 2 Action News that a man entering his home after working a security shift was shot and killed Friday morning.

The shooting happened on Montauk Hill Drive in Buford around midnight.

Family members told detectives they heard at least two gunshots and found George Young, 43, dead at the front door.

"Its' the hardest thing I've been through," wife Tia Young told Channel 2's Tony Thomas.

Young said her brother went outside and found George Young, shot.

"He said, 'Just call 911.' I said, 'Why, was somebody shot?' and he said, 'Yes.' I said, 'Who?' And he said, 'George.'"

According to detectives, Young was about to enter his home after working a security job.

"We know that he was coming home from a late evening shift at an area outside of Gwinnett County," Cpl. Michele Pihera said.

Detectives spoke to neighbors, and so far, no one reported hearing anything other than gunshots.

"There were no mentions of any passerby cars," Pihera said. "We need to ultimately find out who's responsible for this crime."

Detectives told Thomas they weren't sure if Young was followed from his job to his home, or if  someone picked him out as he returned home in the dark.

"They said whoever did this may have been waiting for him or maybe a gang initiation type thing," Young said.

Police spent part of the early morning hours questioning neighbors, hoping someone saw something.

“I'm nervous because nobody's been caught," Young said. "I think I'm still in shock. I can't believe this is happening."

The family told Thomas that while Young worked as a bodyguard, he did not carry a weapon.
