Man found stabbed in Aldi parking lot dies

DULUTH, Ga.,None — Duluth police are investigating the city’s first homicide of the year after a man found stabbed in an Aldi parking lot died.

Police Capt. Don Woodruff said someone using an ATM near 2618 Pleasant Hill Road spotted the man around 7 a.m. Thursday and called police.

The man was alive when emergency crews arrived but died on the way to the hospital, police said.

Police said the victim was around 30 years old.

"We've identified him, but we haven't notified next of kin, so we have not released the name," Woodruff said.

Investigators said they hope surveillance footage from the nearby businesses will provide them with clues.

Police said they would not be surprised if the stabbing was related to a robbery due to the time of year, but it is too soon to tell.

Channel 2’s Kerry Kavanaugh spent the day visiting area businesses and talking to customers. Everyone said it is typically a very peaceful area.

The homicide took place in one of the major shopping districts in Duluth, particularly for the Korean community. That's why news of a homicide in the parking lot has people on edge.

"I thought, you know, Duluth is kind of safe place. And now it's unsecured," said restaurant owner Moon Beck.

Beck says he was seeking a better life when he left New York and opened his restaurant in Duluth.

He never expected a homicide feet from his front door.

"You have to watch it, be careful because nobody knows what happens these days,” he said.

Business owner Paul Kim says he relocated his business here to get out of an area with high crime.

Other customers told Kavanaugh they come here often for the same reason.

"This is pretty much the place you know, people with families come here, shopping, dining," said Kevin Nguyen.
