ATLANTA — Police are searching for home invaders who caused a man to jump from his apartment balcony after they broke in. He later died from his injuries.

The victim, a man in his 50s, lived in a third-floor apartment at the Skylofts on Oak Street in southwest Atlanta.

The victim told police he jumped from his balcony Tuesday night after hearing someone kicking in the door to his apartment.

“In fear of his safety, he went out to the balcony and at some point, they did make entry and he subsequently jumped, which injured him in a very serious way,” Atlanta police Maj. Adam Lee said.

Surveillance video shows three young men entering and leaving the man’s apartment.

Police say the victim, Jose Greer, died six hours later at Grady Memorial Hospital.

Investigators say the three young black men were dressed in black and dropped some items that they had stolen from his apartment.

Apartment management is now urging tenants be extra cautious about their safety, as police search for the home invaders.

A $25,000 Crime Stoppers reward is being offered in the case.
