PEACHTREE CITY, Ga. — Police in Peachtree City said a man led them on a dangerous high-speed chase right through the middle of the city.
Outside a Peachtree City manufacturing plant, Rodney Bridges and co-worker Jason Mizell don't scare easily. But it was a close call.
"I kind of said, 'Y'all need to watch out. There's a car coming around the building and I'm not sure if he's going to stop or not,'" Bridges said.
Peachtree City police say 54-year-old Darryl Lambert didn't stop.
"Absolutely the worst driving I've ever seen. Most dangerous driving I've ever seen in my police career. No regard for human life," Lt. Mark Brown with the Peachtree City Police Department said.
Police said Lambert led them on a 5-mile chase through town, at speeds of 80 mph.
At one point, 16 officers were in pursuit.
Detectives say after ramming one of the patrol cars, and riding on his rims, the suspect lost his back bumper.
Police eventually got him to stop after forcing the suspect off the road.
Back behind the plant where police say Lambert went off road, Rodney Bridges and Jason Mizell say it could have been a disaster.
"Anybody could have been out here in the grass and not knowing. The road stops. You're not expecting somebody to be driving across your grass," Mizell said.
Police said they originally tried to pull Lambert over for not wearing a seatbelt.
After he hit the gas, they said they had to pursue when he began endangering other drivers and pedestrians.
Jail records show Lambert has prior arrests in Fulton County for battery and drug possession.
