Man rescued from collapsed Haralson Co. home

HARALSON COUNTY, Ga.,None — A man became trapped in his home after severe storms collapsed the structure.

Channel 2's Tony Thomas was in Haralson County as rescue crews pulled Randy Boner from his home on Bethany Church Road on Friday night. Neighbors said the victim had lived in the nicest home on the road, but when Thomas arrived all that was left standing was the chimney.

Friends told Thomas that the man went to the basement during the storm and took his cellphone when the two-story home collapsed on him, breaking his leg. The man called neighbors, who called police.

"Right after the wind stopped, he called. He had his cellphone with him. He called and told that his leg was trapped under the house. You know that the house had fallen," neighbor Michael Dobbs said.

There was no power in the area, and rescue crews worked for two hours to remove the man. He was taken away on a stretcher, but authorities said he would be OK.

Afterward, firefighters went door to door to assess damage. The next morning, Haralson EMA Director Brian Walker said two other homes in the county were damaged, along with a church in Buchanan.

The National Weather Service confirmed an E-F-3 touched down Friday night in Haralson County.  That means winds of up to 165-miles-per-hour were in the area as part of the storm, damaging a Buchanan area church.

At least three homes were damaged throughout the county, including one of that was destroyed.
