COLUMBUS, Ga. — In what was likely his final wish, Alex Santos wanted to get married before his terminal cancer claimed his life.
At just 25 years old, Santos was diagnosed with testicular cancer, which eventually spread to his brain.
He was married in July and just weeks after that joyous day, Santos has passed away.
Santos married his wife Heather with the help of his nurses and staff at Piedmont Columbus Regional Midtown Campus.
Santos died at 3:13 a.m. on Tuesday after spending the last couple of weeks in hospice care, the Ledger-Enquirer reported.

The newspaper said he was surrounded by his family when he passed, and his wife Heather said she will continue to care for Santos’ mother.
“The one thing he loved other than his wife and son was his mom,” Heather Santos said. “This is my message to her: I love you, Mom. We will get through this pain together.”
Heather Santos said the couple’s 2-year-old son will help the family in their healing process.
“I believe God sent him to us for this reason,” Heather said in a statement to the Ledger-Enquirer. “He knew we’d need him. We all love you, Alex, and we will miss you forever.”
