Spalding County inmate found after short manhunt

SPALDING COUNTY — Police located a prisoner who escaped from a work detail in Henry County Thursday.

Spalding County officials say Department of Corrections inmate Brandon Harris, 21, slipped away from a work detail in the Locust Grove neighborhood on Carraway Road.

A neighbor who didn't want to be identified told Channel 2's Tom Jones she watched the prisoners working and noticed something strange.

"And I noticed one man walk towards the back and I thought maybe he was using the bathroom," the neighbor said. "No he's not using the restroom."

Records show Harris was convicted two months ago out in Walker County and was serving a 20 year sentence for multiple offenses, including theft by taking, first degreee arson and burglary.

Harris was being housed in Spalding County, but Henry County has a contract for the inmates.
