DeKalb man charged with shooting at McDonald’s employee through drive-thru window

JEFFERSON, Ga. — Police say a Stone Mountain man shot a McDonald’s employee after a fight broke out between another employee and a customer.

Jefferson police said they responded to reports of a shooting at the McDonald’s on Highway 129 around 11 p.m. Thursday.

Witnesses told officers that Devonte Watts, of Stone Mountain, drove up to the drive-thru and ordered food. He then got into an argument with an employee. Witnesses said Watts spat at the employee through the pick-up window.

Police said the employee went outside to confront Watts, who shot at the employee. The bullet hit a second employee who had gone outside to try to diffuse the situation.

The employee who was shot was taken to the hospital with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.

It is unclear if Watts and the first employee knew each other.

Police announced Friday evening that Watts had been arrested and charged.

He is facing multiple charges including aggravated battery, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of a firearm during commission of a crime.
