WHITFIELD COUNTY, Ga. — A woman died in a freak accident after she was impaled by a pipe that went through a windshield.
The accident happened on Interstate 75 in Whitfield County around 1:57 p.m. Tuesday. Georgia State Patrol said a Toyota Highlander was in the southbound lanes when it hit a metal pipe on the road.

The pipe came through the windshield and impaled the front passenger. Troopers said the woman died on the scene. GSP identified her as 68-year-old Lynn Ann Fleming of Buford, Georgia.
GSP determined the pipe was a winch bar used for tightening cargo on flatbed trailers; however, investigators are working to determine where the bar came from.

GSP said the winch bar was sent to a Georgia Bureau of Investigation crime lab for an analysis.
Troopers closed the interstate for almost an hour as they investigated the crash. The driver of the Highlander survived the crash with no injuries.
