SOUTH FULTON COUNTY, Ga. — There is important information for parents with kids who like to go out on the weekend: There are new curfew rules in South Fulton County.
The city of East Point moved up the curfew to 9 p.m. for teens.
Starting at 9 p.m. tonight, no one 17 or under can be out at Camp Creek Marketplace, or anywhere in the city of East Point.
The city council also passed a policy that said any youth out between 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. need to be accompanied by a parent or adult.
During a specially called virtual meeting, the city of East Point voted 6-to-2 to change its curfew.
The council moved quickly after last weekend’s shooting of three teenagers that happened around 8:30 p.m. Saturday at Camp Creek Marketplace.
“And there were teens everywhere. I mean I saw close to 200 teens,” said community activist Daphne Jordan.
But any ordinance can’t be specific to one shopping center – it’s city-wide. That’s why some community members spoke out against it.

“Concentrate on where the problem is: at Camp Creek Marketplace,” said one community member.
Others objected during the meeting for different reasons.
“Why would we dangle our youth, our children in a position where they will encounter the police more often? I don’t understand that,” said another community member.
The council will see how the new times work this weekend and plan to discuss the curfew again at its regular work session scheduled for Monday.
