Metro Atlanta man charged with killing pregnant girlfriend, her uncle

CHEROKEE COUNTY, Ga. — A man was arrested in the parking lot of a grocery store after authorities said he shot to death his pregnant girlfriend and her uncle.

Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office said 30-year-old Kristopher Martin Johnson called 911 around 8 p.m. on March 23 and said that he had shot his girlfriend and her uncle at a home on Old Donaldson Road in Canton.

He then said he was in the parking lot of Ingles grocery store in Canton.

Deputies and Canton police officers went to both locations, and Johnson was arrested in the parking lot without incident.

At the home, authorities found Carla Marie Payne, 30, of Canton, and Thomas Richard Donaldson, 65, of Canton, dead inside.

During an autopsy, Payne was found to be pregnant at the time of her death.

Johnson has been charged with two counts of malice murder, feticide and two counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. He remains in custody at the Cherokee County Adult Detention Center without bond.

The incident remains under investigation.
