Metro Atlantans flock to ‘lucky’ lottery store with hopes of hitting the big jackpot

COBB COUNTY, Ga. — Some lottery stores have a reputation for selling winning tickets.

The way Earl Nesbit sees it, if you’ve got a good thing going, you stick with it.

“This is where everybody comes. This is the ‘luck house’ right here,” said Nesbit.

Heby’s Food Mart along Floyd Road in Mableton is the one and only place many customers will ever play the lottery.

“You win here. They treat you good. They welcome you with open arms and it’s just a good experience to be here in this store,” said Sophia Washington.

With the Powerball jackpot now topping $600 million, people want a store with a great track record.

“We had a guy win $160 million about 10 years ago,” said Shombe Jones.

Jones runs TDT BBQ. He says he always does well, but even better when the loyal lottery players come calling.

“We had somebody win $50,0000 last week on Powerball,” Shombe said.

That’s why fortune hunters like Earl Nesbit would never try their luck anywhere else.

“No sir. This is the spot, right here. Nowhere else!”
