MORROW, Ga. — A Morrow man can thank Apple and a quick-thinking Clayton County Police dispatcher for helping to save his life.
Alecia Chavous received a dispatch call on Jan. 23 around 3:00 a.m. that a citizen in Morrow was having a medical emergency and fell outside of his home. The citizen’s Apple Watch detected the fall and called 911.
Chavous tried unsuccessfully to communicate with the man, who was breathing erratically and was unresponsive.
Luckily, his watch gave her the basic GPS coordinates of his location. Chavous, who was aware of the below-freezing temps in the area, immediately dispatched the Morrow Fire Department while she worked to get a better location of the man.
Being resourceful and aggressive in their approach, they were able to locate the man near his home within 12 minutes of the first 911 call from the watch.
