FULTON COUNTY, Ga. — School leaders and parents from a local middle school are reacting after a staff member found a student with edibles. It happened at Renaissance Middle School in Fairburn.
“When I saw the e-mail, of course as a parent, you’re definitely concerned,” Traci Franklin told Channel 2′s Larry Spruill.
The e-mail that Traci Franklin is referring to was sent out by Renaissance Middle School leaders. Parts of the e-mail stated, “Our staff discovered a student in possession of a food item that may be called an “edible.”

The news quickly spread around the Renaissance Middle community.
Franklin said she immediately talked to her 8th-grade daughter
“I already informed my daughter, not to take anything, that’s edible that maybe surfacing around,” she said.
Marika Roberts has two teenagers at the middle school. Roberts said she’s worried because edibles can be passed off as something sweet.
“It looks like candy. It looks like a brownie and serious things can happen behind that,” said Roberts.

Roberts said she plans on talking to her kids, “I’m not going to sit here and have my children out there, open to something that can be very dangerous,” she said.
Meanwhile, Renaissance Middle School Principal Dr. Ava Williams is encouraging all parents to talk to their kids. Williams also stated in the e-mail, “Hear me loud and clear, students consuming, possessing and/ or distributing these types of substances will not be tolerated. This is not and will not be the norm at Renaissance Middle School.”
