ATLANTA — Days after a partial crane collapses at a construction site, several busy streets in the midtown area remain closed. On Thursday, the City of Atlanta said they would stay that way until further notice.
Channel 2 Action News at 4:00 p.m. first took you to the scene at West Peachtree and Spring Streets Monday after the crane partially collapsed at a high-rise apartment complex under construction. Four people had non-life-threatening injuries and were later released from the hospital.

The collapse forced officials to shut down West Peachtree from 10th to 11th streets and Spring Street from 10th to 12th. The closures and detours will continue, with the city having no estimated date for when they will reopen.
“Public safety personnel are on-site to redirect traffic away from the area. Please observe all ‘closed,’ ‘caution,’ and directional signage. Detours have been added to GPS directional services,” the city wrote in a statement.

Not only did the crane collapse and shut down roads, but it also forced people out of their homes and businesses. However, on Tuesday, residents of the affected apartment complex returned to their homes to retrieve essential items.
Dana Corbett, who lives at the Tens on the West apartment complex, told Channel 2′s Bryan Mims that she was home when the collapse happened.
“And then maybe 30 minutes later, a firefighter came knocking on our doors telling us we had to evacuate. So I got my cat and my dog and came down, and my friend was able to pick me up about an hour later,” Corbett said.
