ATLANTA — 10/16/2017 UPDATE:

According to an arrest warrant obtained by Channel 2 Action News, Williams is accused of killing two of her children "by placing them in an oven and turning it on."

ORIGINAL STORY:

Two young children were found dead at an apartment complex, police tell Channel 2's Steve Gehlbach.

After questioning mother Lamora Williams, 24, police have charged her with two counts of murder.

Williams told police she came home to find two of her children dead inside their Oakland City West End apartment in Atlanta around 11 p.m. Friday.

She told police she left the children around 12 p.m. Friday, but in the care of a female cousin.

However, from the start, neighbors told Gehlbach they thought she lied about what happened, claiming that the mother had left the children home alone before.

TRENDING STORIES:

"She don't ever have anybody here with these children," the neighbor said.

The three brothers are ages 3, 2 and 1 years old. The two youngest boys are now dead, the 3-year-old was not hurt.

Police said the children had obvious injuries, including burns.

A neighbor gave Gehlbach a photograph that shows police removing a huge piece of evidence: the entire oven from inside the apartment.

"I ain't got no soul no more," Jameel Penn, the father of the boys, told Channel 2's Chris Jose.

Penn was at a vigil with friends and family Saturday night. He told Jose the last time he saw his two toddlers was last month.

"Ja’karter, Keyante, my world, my everything. I’m lost," he said.

Neighbors expressed their grief and disbelief at the vigil. They told Jose the apartment "smelled like death." A smell, investigators say indicate the bodies may have been inside for a few days.

"How does a 1-year-old and a 2-year-old get in the stove?," said Neesha Smith.
