CARROLL COUNTY, Ga. — Channel 2 Action News has learned that a deputy is among those hurt after a chase ended with a crash in Carroll County.

Haralson County deputies said the chase suspect is charged with DUI drugs. He and the car’s passenger are both in intensive care, according to deputies.

The crash happened Tuesday morning on Highway 113 at White Rose Lane at the county line, officials said.

"There is a Haralson County deputy on scene with an injury," Carroll County Sheriff's Office spokesman Jeff Richards said.

Klaus spoke with Georgia State Patrol Sgt. Michael Land.

"It never makes any sense to me why people run," Land said. "If he would've just stopped, it couldn't have been as bad as this. I don't know why they do it, but they do."

He said Bremen police asked law enforcement to be on the lookout Tuesday morning for a Hyundai. That's when he said Haralson County sheriff’s deputies spotted the suspicious car, and tried to pull it over and when the driver sped off, a chase began.

Jessica Bailey watched it all unfold. She took a photo of a crumpled car in the front yard of her home and a medical helicopter in the back. She described the scene as chaotic.

“I saw all the police and everything, so we knew it was really bad,” she said.

Deputies rescued the passenger with Jaws of Life.

Georgia State Patrol is investigating the case. They have not released any names.

They told Klaus the driver is around 30 years old, and both he and the passenger are from Douglas County.
