Murdered taxi driver’s van found abandoned in downtown Atlanta parking lot

ATLANTA — A van that belonged to a taxi driver who was shot and killed has been recovered.

On Tuesday morning, Atlanta police responded at 5 a.m. to a shooting call on Centennial Olympic Park Drive and Hunnicutt Drive.

Officers found a man, who worked as a taxi driver, shot outside an apartment complex off. He died at the hospital.

The Fulton County Medical Examiner identified the victim Friday as 72 year old Frederick Emereje.

Police said the suspect left the scene in the victim’s white Toyota van with a National Cab Company sign.

Officers had been searching for the van since Tuesday and received a tip that led them Friday morning to the van left in a parking lot downtown.

The suspect has not been caught yet. No description has been made available as of Friday.

Channel 2′s Kristen Holloway was first on the scene Tuesday. Investigators told her they believe the shooting happened as a result of an argument.

A neighbor that spoke to Holloway said the shooting was a shock and disappointment to her.

“Everybody is trying find their purpose in life. It shouldn’t always have to resolve to a gun,” Jasmine said.

Jasmine also told Channel 2 that the apartment complex gate has been broken for two months.
