DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — A new movie studio going up in DeKalb County plans to become the greenest movie studio in the world.
Crews are building Electric Owl Studios on Redan Road. Phase one of the studio will feature six sound stages totaling 300,000 square feet across 17 acres.

The developers say 30% of the power will come from renewable sources. The studio is installing LED lighting, solar panels, efficient insulation, EV charging stations and will have a recycling program.
Studio leaders say it is the first purpose-built LEED gold certified film and TV production campus in the world.
LEED is a globally used green building rating system.

“Historically, film and the production has been a wasteful industry where a lot of sets get thrown away, we just feel that having a green studio that saves energy and saves a carbon footprint we hope transformative to our industry” said studio founder Dan Rosenfelt.
The studio also promises to create thousands of new jobs.
“We are gonna create about 1,000, and that’s on an annual basis” said fellow studio founder Michael Hahn.

The Georgia Department of Economic Development reported the film and television industry set a record $4 billion in direct spending on productions in the state during fiscal year 2021.
Blockbusters like Spider-Man: No Way Home, Avengers: Endgame, and Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle were all filmed in Georgia.
The Georgia Film Office provides a list of everything currently filming in the state.
The new studio is set to open in early 2023.
