ATLANTA — There's a new push to find the person who shot and killed a man outside a MARTA station last year.

David Jackson, 22, was shot on October 9th, 2016, and died 24 days later.

On Sunday, the victim's mother told Channel 2's Nefertiti Jaquez she feels guilt each day as her son's murder remains unsolved.
“They stole my baby from me,” she told Jaquez in an emotional interview.
Detectives took Jaquez through the difficult case. The shooting happened at a MARTA stop along Joseph E. Lowery Boulevard in Atlanta.

“Who would want to take his life and why would they shoot at him?" his mother continues to ask.

Jaquez went back to the crime scene on Sunday with lead detective Darrin Smith. He told her they’ve collected surveillance video and even spoke to a witness who recalled the shooter saying, “I will teach you some respect.”

It was before he opened fire, striking Jackson in the back. But the video only shows the getaway car taking off from the scene – so police don’t have much to go on.

"We are at a standstill in the case,” Smith said.

Jackson said her son lived for 24 days after the shooting and even managed to whisper something before his lungs collapsed and he died.

“Momma I don’t want to die, I don’t want to leave you,” she told Jaquez is what he said.

All she wants now is justice.

"I want them to pay for what they did to my family. For what they did to my son," she said.
