Newnan man’s home rebuilt with help from community following violent EF4 tornado

NEWNAN, Ga. — More than 10 months after a EF4 tornado devastated Newnan, damaging more than 1,700 buildings, families are still rebuilding their lives and their homes.

Bruce Favors, now 65 years old, will never forget that night in March 2021.

“I was just shocked, and praying it would blow over,” said Favors.

Favors survived after wedging himself between a wall and his couch. His home had shingles ripped off and a hole in the roof causing major water damage. Without homeowner’s insurance, he didn’t know if he’d be able to fix the home he grew up in.

Wednesday he celebrated with volunteers, church members, non-profits and the Coweta Community Foundation that helped him rebuild and repair the house.

“Now redone and back to normal … I can live here 20 more years,” said Favors.

The Coweta Community Foundation is in the process of helping around 150 families, but this was the completion of their first major renovation. The donations came from individuals, large corporate donors and a large portion from the benefit concert held last summer by native country music star Alan Jackson.

Favors is grateful for the help and thanked everyone at a ribbon-cutting ceremony on his front porch.

“Thanks to them, everything started falling into place,” said Favors. “Everything got back to normal.”
