Covington police officer out of hospital days after being shot in the face

COVINGTON, Ga. — A Covington police officer who was shot in the face after responding to a domestic incident at a hotel late Tuesday night has been released from the hospital.

Officer Rashad Rivers responded to the Oyo Hotel off Alcovy Road around 10:30 p.m. on Tuesday night.

Treyvorius Stodghill, 23, was shot during an exchange of gunfire and died from his injuries.

Rivers was rushed to Grady Memorial Hospital where he was listed in critical condition.

The officer underwent surgery for his jaw and is expected to make a full recovery from home.

“We’re thankful for the condition that he’s in, that he’s going home. He’ll rest up, he’ll heal and hopefully he’ll be back to work soon,” Lt. Daniel Digby said before Rivers was released.

Channel 2 Action News spoke with Rivers before a procession escorted him to his home in Covington.

He said he feels “like a new man” and hopes to get back on duty “ASAP.”
