NEWTON COUNTY, Ga. — Find mysterious cash on your car? Police are warning it’s a scam.
The Newton County Sheriff’s Office said they have received numerous reports that people have found counterfeit money underneath their windshield wipers.
The cars are often parked in people’s driveways.

The sheriff’s office said the money may look and even feel authentic, but it’s fake.

“At this time, we are unsure of the motive,” officers said. “We advise all citizens to not immediately approach their vehicle if they see something like this. Instead, call 911 and report suspicious activity.”

This isn’t the first time someone has attempted to circulate fake cash in metro Atlanta. In 2021, fake cash circulated in both Douglas and Rabun counties.
