Alpharetta officer clocks motorcyclist speeding 178 mph on Ga. 400

NORTH FULTON COUNTY, Ga. — Law enforcement departments have to deal with speeders on Ga. 400 all the time. But one motorcyclist was going so fast over Labor Day weekend that police couldn’t stop them.

An Alpharetta police officer clocked a motorcyclist going 178 mph while driving south on Ga. 400 sometime Sunday.

With a speed like that, the officer didn’t even attempt a stop. The officer passed along the only description available to other agencies in the direction the motorcyclist was heading.

“Hopefully, the driver of the sports bike matures a little before a tragedy happens,” police said.

With fewer drivers on the roads throughout the pandemic, police officers have seen their fair share of super-speeders.

Sandy Springs police had to deal with another super-speeder earlier this year. On April 11, an officer clocked a motorcyclist going 172 mph on Ga. 400.

“This picture illustrates someone that has no regard for his own life or the life or safety of others,” police said in a Facebook post.

Most speeding violations are considered misdemeanors in Georgia and fines can go up to $1,000.
