ROSWELL, Ga. — Roswell police are investigating after a young woman's body was found near a pool at an apartment complex.

It happened at the Atlantic Newtown off Nesbit Ferry Road. Channel 2's North Fulton County Bureau Chief Mike Petchenik said crime scene tape was strung around the pool area most of the day Wednesday.

Police say a maintenance worker found the girl's body by the pool and there were "obvious signs of trauma."

Johns Creek police told Petchenik that they were looking for a missing teen Tuesday night who lived nearby. They believe the body found is that of the missing teen.

They said the teen's family contacted them about 9:30 a.m. Wednesday to say the girl sneaked out overnight and had not returned.

TRENDING STORIES:

They told police the teen had been known to sneak out in the past, so they weren't concerned until she didn't show up in the morning.

The medical examiner has not positively identified the body as the teen. Police have not released the girl's identity or her cause of death.

Video from NewsChopper 2 showed several crime scene investigators in the pool area gathering evidence Wednesday morning.

Petchenik talked to neighbors who were shocked something like that happened where they lived.

"I don't have words," one neighbor said. "I'm sorry to hear. That's awful. I can't believe it happened down the hill from where I live."

Anyone with information should call Johns Creek police.
