Business owners push back over proposal to collect millions in parking fees in downtown Roswell

ROSWELL, Ga. — There is pushback over parking fees in Roswell.

“They’ve already put $2.2 million into the budget for 2025 which is ridiculous,” David Bailey, owner of Naylor Hall on Canton Street told Channel 2′s Candace McCowan.

“I don’t know how they’re going to do that,” Jenna Aronowitz, owner of 1920 Tavern said outside Monday’s meeting.

The city council approved a budget for 2025 that would increase money collected from parking fees from less than $44,000 to $2.2 million.

But it’s not clear how they plan to collect those fees.

“There has been no formal policy to my knowledge, that I’m aware of that’s been decided on the parking matter,” Mayor Kurt Wilson said.

Wilson said they’re taking ideas and will have another public meeting before deciding how the fees will be collected.

But business owners like Aronowitz do not want increased fees considered at all.

“It’s not just the guest that it affects, it’s also the employees. People forget that all these restaurants have employees that run them and those employees don’t live here,” Aronowitz said. “It’s just going to be a deterrent, I don’t know what the city’s endgame is. Do you want people to come to Roswell and spend their money or do you want them to go elsewhere?”

“I assure you there will be some more objections raised by business owners,” Bailey said.
