They said they immediately knew something tragic had happened when they heard everything going on early this morning, hearing screams and gunfire.

“You don’t hear that level of despair in a scream, you know,” John Tumelty, a witness, said. “There were cops outside, guns drawn, automatic weapons.”

Johns Creek Police say they heard gunfire, too, when they responded to a 911 call from the home, so they went inside and found the victims.

“There were shots they could hear being fired over the 911 call system,” Police Captain Tom Hood said. “The officers cleared the residence and went forward based off an active event.”

Officers showed up and considered calling for a SWAT team but moved in when they heard more gunfire.

Police haven’t released a connection between the shooter and the victims or a motive.

“You don’t know the pain that people might be in, you know, and it plays out in some extreme ways,” Tumelty said.

Investigators say they have no reason to believe that anyone outside of the three people inside the home during the shooting were involved in the incident.

Police have not released the deceased victim’s identity.
