SANDY SPRINGS, Ga. — Sandy Springs police are investigating after they say a man lured a woman to a local apartment complex, robbed, then sexually assaulted her after connecting through the popular dating app “Tinder.”

Police told Channel 2’s Mike Petchenik the incident happened late Saturday night on Spring Creek Lane.

An incident report Petchenik obtained said the 20-year-old woman met the man, who asked her to follow him to the rear of a building.  Once outside, the report said the man pulled a gun and stole cash and a cell phone from her, before forcing her to perform a sex act. %

The report said the victim was able to escape and run to a nearby apartment where she asked someone else to call police.

“You have to use common sense,” said Sgt. Ron Momon. “You don’t know anyone, you’re meeting them at their home. You don’t know this person, their background, anything about them.”

Momon said investigators are concerned the robber might try this again.

“There’s no reason for him to stop. If he thinks he can get away with this, he’ll definitely strike again. There’s no doubt in my mind,” he said.

Neighbors told Petchenik they were concerned about what happened.

“That’s really scary, that happening around here,” said one woman who asked Petchenik to conceal her identity. “I’ve lived here almost a year and it’s usually pretty safe.”
