SANDY SPRINGS, Ga. — Drivers in metro Atlanta continue to try to keep up with the ever-changing traffic patterns and ongoing construction.
This week crews will be shutting down a portion of Abernathy Road right underneath the Georgia 400 overpass, finalizing the new traffic pattern – a diverging diamond interchange.
This is just one part of GDOT’s mega-project to transform and improve traffic patterns at the Georgia 400 and the Interstate 285 corridor, limiting access to drivers depending on where they are coming from.

The new traffic pattern is just a few miles from Georgia’s first diverging diamond interchange on Ashford Dunwoody Road, which was completed back in 2012.
And while the concept has since been constructed and implemented in many areas around the state and metro Atlanta, the concept still feels very new for many drivers.
The new interchange will be open to drivers starting on Monday.
