NORTH FULTON COUNTY, Ga. — Roswell police are investigating after an off-duty Fulton County officer was carjacked last Sunday.

Police said officer Bobby Ransom was driving on Old Dogwood Road around 6:00 a.m. when someone flagged him down and asked for help. %

When Ransom stopped, the man pulled out a gun, forcing him to drive and pick up another person.

Police said Ransom was able to fight off the attacker and get out of the car. The carjacker and passenger ran away.

“Somehow the victim was able to deflect the gun and jump out of his own vehicle and call us for help,” Roswell officer Lisa Holland said. “The victim is an off-duty police officer, so hopefully, maybe the technique he used to deflect the gun was able to save himself from being harmed.”

Ransom ended up at a nearby Krystal’s restaurant.

“The guy, he came banging on the door, showing his badge, saying he was an undercover cop and that he got robbed by two people,” a witness said.

Holland said officers found Ransom’s car with no sign of the carjackers.

“Here is a police officer, trained to help people. Any officer, if someone flagged them down for help, whether on duty of off duty, would want to officer their services,” Roswell officer Lisa Holland said.

Fulton County police said they are aware of the carjacking and are letting Roswell police handle the investigation.

Channel 2’s Mike Petchenik contacted Ransom, but he did not want to comment on the case.
