City of Atlanta employee killed after tree falls on SUV in Sandy Springs

SANDY SPRINGS, Ga. — Channel 2 Action News has confirmed with emergency officials that a woman who worked for the City of Atlanta was killed when a tree fell on their vehicle.

Sandy Spring police said 38-year-old Aquarius D. Johnson was driving along Mt. Paran Road near Jett Road when the tree fell, killing her.

The incident happened in Sandy Springs around 1:30 p.m. The city says Johnson worked for the Department of Watershed Management and was driving a city vehicle when she was killed.

Channel 2's Mike Petchenik was on the scene after it happened. Police diverted traffic in the area as they investigated the death.

The road was shutdown for hours while crews investigated.
