SANDY SPRINGS, Ga. — A busy road in North Fulton County reopened after an hours-long standoff with a burglary suspect Thursday.
Police said they got an alert about a burglary at an apartment complex off Roswell Road. When they arrived, they saw three men running away. They captured two, but said one man pulled out a gun near Dunkin Donuts and an animal hospital and threatened to kill himself.
The SWAT team was called in and officers began negotiating with the man.
At one point, police said the man fired a shot at officers.
After more than two hours, gunfire was exchanged and the suspect was shot by officers. Officers said the injuries do not appear to be life-threatening.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is now investigating.
Roswell Road is closed in both directions from Hammond Road to Hildebrand Road in Sandy Springs and will remain that way for hours.
