Sandy Springs police officer asked to transport ‘prisoner’ gets surprise proposal

SANDY SPRINGS, Ga. — A metro Atlanta police officer got a big surprise during what was supposed to be a routine prisoner transport.

Officer Araly Duran has been with the Sandy Springs Police Department for a year and is assigned to the patrol division.

On Saturday, Duran gathered with other officers for their nightly roll call meeting in the station’s parking lot. She was told she would do a prisoner transport after the meeting.

But the “prisoner” had other ideas in mind.

“Little did she know that her boyfriend was in the backseat of the patrol car nervously waiting to pop the question,” a Sandy Springs PD spokesperson said.

Sweet video shows the moment that Duran discovered that Ryan, her boyfriend, was actually the one in the backseat of the patrol car.

As her police family looked on, Ryan took a knee with the King and Queen lit up behind him. And of course, Duran said yes!

Police said Ryan (who’s last name wasn’t given) is in the military and reached out to Duran’s sergeant to ask for help to orchestrate the proposal.

Congrats to the newly-engaged couple!
