GAINESVILLE, Ga. — A north Georgia hospital announced that it is opening a new mobile unit to help in the fight against COVID-19.
The new mobile unit will be located in a parking lot of the North Georgia Medical Center, near the main building and it will be outfitted with all of the same technology as the main building.
Shipping containers will be used to construct the mobile unit, which will add an additional 20 beds to the hospital.
The additional bed space is needed for a system that is seeing an uptick in ICU patients.
Northeast Georgia Medical Center is planning to open the new mobile COVID-19 unit as soon as Tuesday. The area has seen a steady increase of COVID-19 cases in recent weeks.
