GORDON COUNTY, Ga. — The National Weather Service confirmed at least one tornado touched down in north Georgia during Friday’s severe storms.
Severe Weather Team 2 Chief Meteorologist Brad Nitz and Severe Weather Team 2 Meteorologist Brian Monahan tracked the tornado warning for Gordon County on Channel 2 Action News.
NWS surveyors have now determined that a low-end EF-1 tornado with peak winds of 90 mph touched down in the Sonoraville area.
Officials said the tornado was on the ground for four minutes with a path length of 3.7 miles and a path width of about 150 yards in the Sonoraville area.

The tornado first touched down along Hammond Road at 3:08 p.m. where several trees were uprooted. The storm continued moving ENE and caused damage to homes on Langston Road.
The tornado also brought down trees and powerlines along McIntyre Loop and almost destroyed a barn. Other damage was spotted on Crossing Creek Ridge Drive and Mt. Olive Road.
Officials determined the tornado lifted around 3:12 p.m. in the area of Young-Wright Lake.
