Officers searching for ‘shade tree’ mechanic after hit-and-run kills Ga. woman

BIBB COUNTY, Ga. — Officers are asking for the public’s help in identifying and locating a man they believe is connected to the hit-and-run that killed a Georgia woman.

According to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office, officers are searching for the driver of a car that hit 46-year-old Tracie Yvonne Pitts on Wednesday at 9:43 p.m.

Pitts was hit while crossing the street near the 2400 block of Rocky Creek Road.

During the initial investigation officers learned the car used to hit Pitts left the scene and then later returned. While speaking with the owner of the car, officers were told that a Black male who is a “shade tree” mechanic and goes by the street name of “D” was test-driving the car when he hit Pitts.

The owner said “D” brought her car back and told her she would need to go to the scene.
