Parkview High School investigating alleged ‘inappropriate behavior' incident

NOW PLAYING ABOVE

LILBURN, Ga. — Channel 2 Action News has learned the Parkview High School baseball team is under investigation for an alleged incident.

Channel 2's Tony Thomas first broke news of the investigation on Channel 2 Action News at Noon.

According to sources, the alleged inappropriate behavior incident happened on a weekend field trip to Charleston, South Carolina.

Officials say the incident happened at the team's hotel.

“I don't know how I feel about this. It's very surprising,” student Selma Dizdarevic said.

Parkview High School students said they are confused by the allegations swirling around their state champion baseball team.

“I’m pretty sure I'll know some of them,” rising school senior Bryce Balke said.

Several students are being spoken with and interviewed by authorities at the school district. Sources tell Thomas the outcome could be “very serious.”

The school district released a statement Tuesday:

"Parkview High School is investigating allegations of misbehavior of six upperclassmen toward younger students during a baseball tournament  that was held in Charleston, SC. It is alleged that the older students entered approximately three hotel rooms of incoming freshmen players on Friday evening and began to wrestle with the younger students. This was discovered later Friday night as coaches were checking on the players. In addition, an allegation was made of inappropriate physical contact by an older student toward one of the freshmen. The coach reported this allegation to the Athletic Director and administrators so that an investigation could begin.

The school is actively investigating this situation and will take appropriate action based on the findings of the investigation. School Police have been notified and upon completion of their investigation will share information with the appropriate jurisdictional authority."

The baseball team is ranked and considered one of the best teams in the country.

“Something should happen I guess but nothing major because they have a good opportunity to go someplace good,” Balke said.

Gwinnett school officials would not answer on camera questions Monday regarding the investigation and said they are unsure how long the probe may last.
