Great news! Paulding teen hit by a car at school leaves hospital after 14 weeks

PAULDING COUNTY, Ga. — A Paulding County teenager who was hit by a car at school has been released from the hospital after fighting for her life for 14 weeks.

Kendall Thomas was hit by a car while crossing a crosswalk at North Paulding High School in January.

Thomas was headed to football practice when she was hit.

The teen was left in critical condition with injuries to her brain.

Yesterday, Thomas was released from the hospital after two brain surgeries and weeks of rehabilitation.

Her mother, Shanna Thomas, released photos of her daughter decked out in a pink “Kendall Strong” T-shirt leaving the hospital with her care team and family beside her.

“Today is the day that we have longed for; it is the day that we have waited for; it is the day we all have prayed for. . . Discharge Day!” her mother wrote.

Shauna Thomas described the rollercoaster of emotions that has come with each stage of her daughter’s recovery.

“Our ‘new normal’ became our test and our test is becoming a testimony,” Shauna Thomas wrote. “These photos represent everything we have embodied and proof that WE’VE COME THIS FAR BY FAITH.”

A GoFundMe to help with Kendall’s medical expenses has raised nearly $100,000.
