PEACHTREE CITY, Ga. — Peachtree City’s 90-mile network of golf cart paths is considered by most to be safe and sound. There have never been reports of real trouble, until now.
"I'm glad I'm not the kid's mother, and I hope they have a good talk."
Longtime resident Bonnie Mulligan has her way of dealing with it. Police have another.
They want to arrest a teenager who allegedly pulled a gun along the paths. Police say late on the night of April 18, a couple on a golf cart was rolling down Lexington Pass when another cart pulled in front of them and stopped.
They told police a teenager between the ages of 13 and 15 got out and pointed what looked like a black pistol at them.
"I think that's an isolated incident. You'll have one kid out of a thousand that's going to do something like that,” resident Bobby Joe Smith said.
Since the beginning of the year, the police department has increased patrols on the paths by 300 percent. But not every resident is impressed.
"I mean, how many people have they caught? I don't know if police patrols are exactly the answer. I saw them a couple of weeks ago back here checking license and registration for golf carts,” Zac Collins said.
As for Bonnie Mulligan, it won’t be an issue.
"I am 73 years old. I don't walk any place after dark,” Mulligan said.
There has not been an arrest in the case. The victims told police the male teen was white, around 5 feet 8 inches tall, and weighed between 120 and 130 pounds. He was driving a red golf cart.
