ATLANTA — Persistent and at times heavy rain led to some flooding across the metro Thursday night.
Scattered showers moved through the northern part of the metro around the end of the evening rush hour and lasted into the night.
When you’re neighborhood could be impacted by the rain, on the Channel 2 Action News This Morning starting at 4:30 a.m.
On Twitter, the city of Chamblee shared photos of a flooded underpass at New Peachtree Road and American Industrial Way. The roadway was temporarily shut down until the water receded.
Heavy rain caused Old Paper Mill Road to flood Thursday evening. Cobb County government spokesman Ross Cavitt also tweeted out a picture of a Jeep driving through deep water along the flooded road.
A portion of River Green Parkway in Duluth had to be shut down around 8 p.m. because of floodwaters.
With the issues the metro saw Thursday, there is more rain to the west that is expected to impact the metro Friday.
Even as the rain moves in, temperatures are expected to go up throughout the night.
“As the winds come around to the southeast, we’ll see our temperatures climb out of the 40s as we head through this evening and even warmer by tomorrow morning,” said Severe Weather Team 2′s Brad Nitz.
Temperatures are expected to start out in the 60s across the region Friday. The heavier rain is expected to start moving through the metro by the afternoon.
A flash flood watch has been issued for several counties in northwest Georgia through Friday evening, where that area could see 2 to 3 inches of rain. The main threats include flooding of creeks and streams, as well as possible ponding on the roads.
In and around the metro, we’ll likely see about 1 to 2 inches of rain through Friday.
