PLAINS, Ga. — Among a collection of bills signed into law over the weekend, U.S. President Joe Biden approved legislation to rename the post office in Plains, Ga. after late former President Jimmy Carter and the late First Lady Rosalynn Carter.
Going forward, the U.S. Postal Service facility on Main Street in Plains will be known as the Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter Post Office.
The push to rename the location came from multiple members of Georgia’s Congressional Delegation and both of its U.S. Senators. The bill’s signing happened just days after Carter died at his home at the age of 100.
Now, as the nation mourns former President Carter, with memorials unfolding in his hometown of Plains, in Atlanta, in Washington and across the country, another part of Georgia will hold tribute to the Carters’ legacies into the future.
