ATLANTA — Atlanta police announced the arrest of four men and three women involved in a robbery ring that targeted people trying to buy cars on Craigslist.
According to police, the suspects would pretend to sell cars on Craigslist for amazing prices. Once prospective buyers were lured in, the group would rob the victims of their cash and belongings.
Police say the gang-affiliated group would target Hispanic people with the assumption that the victims would be more reluctant to report the crime.
Police believe this crew robbed at least 15 people over several months, and stole around $20,000 in cash.
Police say the robberies happened in the radius of a couple blocks near Stanton Road in southwest Atlanta.
In one case, the suspects shot at a woman who got scared and drove off.
Atlanta Police Major Darryl Tolleson offered a stern warning for anyone looking to commit the same crime.
“With all the technology today, we’re going to find you and we’re going to catch you,” Tolleson said. “All we need many times is an anonymous tip from the victim if they’re afraid to come in.”
Police say it’s fortunate no one was seriously hurt in these robberies.
