ATLANTA — A police chase ended off Cleveland Avenue in southwest Atlanta Friday morning.
The chase began after a carjacking at Whole Foods in Buckhead. The suspect held the carjacking victim at knifepoint, authorities said.
A Channel 2 Action News reporter saw the chase on Peacthree Street as patrol cars pursued the suspect heading toward Interstate 75.
State Patrol joined the chase once it moved to the downtown connector.
Officers used a pit maneuver as the carjacking suspect exited Interstate 75 south at Cleveland Avenue.
The suspect lost control of the vehicle and crashed on the highway exit, and the suspect was arrested.
Police identified the suspect as Donald Bryant, 48.
Channel 2's Steve Gehlbach spoke with the victim, Morgan Watson, 22, this afternoon in Buckhead.
According to Watson, during the attack she yelled and several people nearby responded to her cries for help.
Watson says two men followed the suspect out of the shopping center parking lot to update police on the location of Bryant.
"Yeah I got cut up a little bit, but they're just scratches," Watson said. "I mean you can only do so much damage with such a small blade."
Watson told Gehlbach the suspect was a portly man, but wasn't very strong.
Bryant is charged by with obstructing of officers, aggravated assault, armed robbery, hit and run/fail to render aid and driving in failure to maintain lane.
