ATLANTA — Police are trying to figure out who shot and killed two drivers on a metro Atlanta road.
The gunfire erupted Thursday night on Daniel Road in southwest Atlanta. Police said a Fulton County sheriff's deputy on patrol came across two people shot and called it in.
Investigators said the two victims were in separate cars and met up with a third vehicle. Police said the men got out of a dark-colored car and then started shooting.
Police do not have a description of the shooters, but a neighbor's security system recorded the seconds following the shooting. The video does not show the shooting, but police hope it will provide more clues in the case.
"They talked to two gentlemen who get out of another car and then shortly after that, the shooting is not actually captured on video... you see the male, who would be transported to the hospital, come back toward the house in an apparent effort to ask for some assistance, and then you see the vehicle leave,” Atlanta Police Capt. Michael O'Connor said.
One of the men was taken to the hospital, where he died, and the other was pronounced dead at the scene.
The victims have been identified as Nathan Adams, 36, and Justin Hilliard, 30.
Brenda Cowart knew something terrible had happened when she saw police standing in front of her home late Thursday night.
“I’m a little bit scared because I got little nieces and nephews here with me. I worry about them,” she said.
Investigators are going through the surveillance video, working to learn a motive.
