CHEROKEE COUNTY, Ga. — Parts of the Bridgemill subdivision in Cherokee County were blocked for hours Saturday night after Cherokee County deputies said a man shot and killed his 19-year old daughter and then killed himself. Deputies said the neighborhood is not a place they often come to.
“This is not a common type of call, that we would get here no,” said Sheriff’s Public Information Officer, Captain Jay Baker.

Baker said deputies were called out to the home on Bridgemill Avenue just before 6 p.m. Saturday night after neighbors reported hearing gunfire.
“When they arrived on scene, they discovered two deceased persons, inside,” Baker said. “It appears that a father shot, his daughter and then took his own life.”

Baker said investigators believe 57-year-old Howard Newhouse took out a gun, shooting and killing his daughter Katheryn, before turning the gun on himself.
He said Howard’s wife was home when the shooting happened and they hope that she will be able to help them piece together why this horrible incident happened.
