Officer shoots man who was walking around Cobb County neighborhood firing off a gun, police say

COBB COUNTY, Ga. — Cobb County police shot an 83-year-old man accused of firing a gun in a Cobb County neighborhood after they say he was told to stop.

Thomas Yarborough was walking down Columns Drive in Cobb randomly firing a gun in the area on Tuesday night, according to Cobb police.

When officers arrived, they commanded him to drop the weapon. But instead, police said Yarborough fired his gun again.

A homeowner told Channel 2 Action News Yarborough banged on her door with blood all over his face, yelling that someone was after him. That’s when police tried to get him to put his gun down.

Police said Yarborough shot at the officers, and missed, so they fired back, hitting him.

“I just heard more shots because there were two series of shots,” the homeowner said.

He was taken to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital, the extent of his injuries is unclear.

No officers were injured. The incident is now under investigation by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
