"We don't know all the circumstances on what took place prior to the shooting. But we have been speaking with his wife. She is cooperating but at this point we don't know how many people we are looking for,” Paulding Co. Sgt. Ashley Henson said.
Police said it is still unclear whether the man's wife, who called 911, witnessed the shooting.
The two children in the home, an infant and child who appeared to be between 4 and 6 years old, were awake, but in another part of the house when it happened, according to authorities.
Police said they did not see the shooting.
"We would love to release anything, but we don't know if we've got one or two or how many of the suspects," Sgt. Ashley Henson said.
Police believe the shooter or shooters may have left the neighborhood in a car.
They are working to find leads.
