GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — Police told Channel 2 Action News that a man was shot to death at a Gwinnett County apartment complex Sunday afternoon.

The shooting happened in unincorporated Norcross at Rockbridge Court off Jimmy Carter Boulevard. Police said the victim was shot multiple times.

Family and friends told Channel 2's Berndt Petersen the victim, Joe Love, 42, was well-liked in the neighborhood, and they can't believe somebody would shoot him.

Police said at about 1:30 p.m. Sunday, witnesses heard multiple gunshots.

Detectives said Love and a friend were inside the apartment, but they're not sure how an apparent intruder got in.

"As you can see, the second occupant busted out the window when he heard the shots fired to flee the area," said Matthew Williamson, with the Gwinnett County Police Department.

The crime hit many people in this neighborhood very hard.

"He just wanted better for everyone around him. That wasn't supposed to be him. That shouldn't have been him," said Love's fiancee Shunique Jones.

Neighbors said Love was very popular around and a friend to many.

"He took me in one month after I moved here. He didn't deserve none of this," said William Donegan, a friend of Love.

Love's family said he ran a pressure washing business and owned some expensive audio equipment in an effort to start a small radio station. That's why they believe robbery was the motive.

"Whoever did it, I hope they get what they deserve. I hope justice is served," said Sherry Williams, Love's former wife.

Friends said Love leaves behind eight children and a fiancee, who said Love proposed to her two days before Christmas.

"I loved him. He was wonderful," Jones said.

While the victim's family believes it was a robbery that led to the shooting, detectives have not gone public with a possible motive.
