GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — Police are searching for a man they say strangled a young pregnant woman to death, killing her unborn baby, Gainesville police said.

Police said 22-year-old Juana Jose was rushed to the hospital after a medical emergency on Jan. 29. She was later pronounced dead.

“Due to the nature of the call and suspicion surrounding the death, investigators began looking into the case,” police said. “an autopsy revealed that Jose died by strangulation. Sadly, Jose’s unborn child died as a result of the murder.”

Police have obtained warrants to arrest Max Rocael Calel Sanic, 20, of Gainesville. Police said Jose and Sanic knew each other but did not clarify their relationship. Sanic has been charged with malice murder and felony feticide.
Anyone who has information about Sanic’s whereabouts is asked to call 911.
